The maker of the "panizza" teams up with a group of friends who built a stellar concept around the comforts of recess time when they were growing up.

Chris Locher, an Italian Swiss-born chef with a Filipino heart, became famous for his C’Italian Dining restaurant’s panizza and the classic My Kitchen in Paco, Manila. This time, he collaborates with three young men who grew up as childhood friends, sharing a similar passion for their favourite school “subject,” recess.

“It’s always 10:30 a.m. here,” says partner Scott Tan, whose previous ventures include the local franchises of Bon Chon and Ginza Bairin. The clean, well-lit space of the restaurant displays student lockers and blackboards on a wall, the periodic table of elements on the ceiling, and a developing whisky bar (with drinks named “Detention” and the like) that Tan and his friends fondly call “Section F.”

Locher invested in the idea of his co-partners to present comfort food around the idea of school and barkadas. Judging from the flavours of the Titanium panizza (a combination of roast lamb and lemon pepper-seasoned shrimp with grilled red beets and feta cheese) and barbecued mustard lamb ribs, the breakfast menu they have created rivals some of the best establishments’ already.
