The ramen joint responsible for the city's ramen craze is back for dine-in

The famous, wait-in-line-delicious and notorious Ukokkei Ramen Ron in Arnaiz shut its doors, sending shockwaves through the country's ramen fanatics. Thankfully, it was since totally rebranded and brought back into our lives. In October of 2020, Manila was presented with an updated, more contemporary brand by the name of Ramen Ron. This new concept is still headed by notoriously no-nonsense, often hot-headed, chef Tamura-san, but this time in collaboration with chef Margarita and Amado Forés.

"The iconic Chef Tamura-san who pioneered the ramen trend [in the country], is smiling now, moves on, and opens with us," says chef Margarita.

Ramen Ron’s classic tantanmen, hiyashi goma and other stellar ramens have been ready for order online, as the brand operates as a cloud restaurant primed for delivery. On top of that, their pivot to adapt to the pandemic's many restraints pushed them to develop fun DIY ramen kits as well. Dig in and chow down on their crave-worthy gyoza, chahan (Japanese fried rice) and karaage (Japanese fried chicken) too, if you want a bit more than noodles.

Finally, Ramen Ron revealed that they are working on opening their first-ever brick-and-mortar dine-in restaurant this year, which will be located in Rockwell Center, Makati. Much to our delight, eating a piping hot bowl of fresh fragrant ramen with noodles (made from a recipe exclusive to the brand), decorated with a decadent variety of toppings from pork chashu, perfectly cooked eggs, to ground pork or miso paste, will no longer be a dream. Yes, we have had Ramen Ron at home - but there is truly nothing like eating this dish straight out from the kitchen, with no delivery in-between.

Fans of Ukkokei and its infamously frightening chef who was known for strict rules and intensely-flavoured ramen will be glad to know that chef Tamura will be heading the kitchen at the Rockwell restaurant, cooking great ramen and ensuring that each bowl is up to his sky-high standards. To entice us even more, Amado Forés shares that diners can look forward to some new menu items like pork buns, to say the least.
