Malaysia is home to many fantastic foods, yet Penang's iconic assam laksa has been voted by CNN's global readers as one of the World's Best 50 Foods.

The only Malaysian dish to make the cut, the flavourful bowl of noodles beat tacos, cheeseburgers, Singaporean chilli crab and even Neopolitan pizza to take the 26th spot on the list.

If it were up to us, we would have included public favourites such as nasi lemak, bak kut teh, sang har mee (fresh water prawn noodles), asam pedas fish, and ayam percik for starters. But, we're getting ahead of ourselves.

The bronze medal was taken by sushi, followed by silver and gold medallists Indonesian nasi goreng and rendang.

Our Thai neighbours also managed to nab a few slots on the list, with dishes the likes of Tom Yum Goong and Pad Thai not surprisingly making the cut.
