Renowned chef of Noma and James Bond director team up for Apple docuseries that seeks to tell the story of humanity through food

Apple has announced a new documentary series, titled Omnivore, that brings a collection of talented individuals together to tell the tale of humanity through food.

Filmmaker Cary Joji Fukunaga, who directed the first season of True Detective as well as the latest Bond movie, No Time to Die, is teaming up with René Redzepi, renowned chef of Noma restaurant in Copenhagen, Emmy-nominated filmmaker Xan Aranda, and James Beard and Emmy award-winning writer Matt Goulding for the series.

The project has been brewing since January 2022, and there has been great excitement from all collaborators around its announcement this month.

On Instagram, René Redzepi wrote, “A seed of an idea that has taken years to cultivate is finally happening."

According to Goulding, the series will attempt to “unlock the secrets of eight ingredients that together represent a recipe for humanity.”

The chosen ingredients are yet to be revealed, but Goulding added: “We’ll be on the road for the better part of 2022, traveling to more than two dozen countries, in search of some higher, more delicious truth.”

No doubt Asia will be on the itinerary as many an ingredient hailing from this part of the world has contributed to the human story across the centuries, defining us, connecting us and driving what goes on around us. However, exactly where and what ingredients star will likely only be seen when Omnivore hits our screens at an also yet-to-be-determined date. Stay tuned.
