Pertinence restaurant in France recently welcomed its first Michelin Star, with one of the chef-owners being a Malaysian from Ipoh.

Kwen Liew is only one of the two female chefs to have made the cut, achieving the amazing feat after only 7 months of operations together with her husband Ryosuke Naito.

Located in Fontaine de Mars, Pertinence is a quaint yet beautiful space where only 18 diners can be seated at one time.

The restaurant prides themselves on serving, in their own words, "French cuisine adorned with Japanese technique to draw all its quintessence", while the Michelin Guide describes the husband and wife duo's food as having "carefully and expertly transformed market-fresh ingredients into succulent classical French dishes, brushing away the cobwebs of tradition along the way".

The two met each other while working at Restaurant Antoine back in 2011 and subsequently moved on to start their food journey together at Pertinence.

Congratulations Kwen Liew, I'm sure we speak for everyone here in Malaysia when we say that you're doing our nation proud.
