Best in the World? 25 Hong Kong and Macau Restaurants Among La Liste 1000

The quest for the definitive dining guide goes on, as France has just unveiled a challenge to the World’s 50 Best list with its own ranking system. La Liste’s inaugural ranking was released last night at a ceremony at the Quay d’Orsay in Paris by Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, which honoured Switzerland’s Restaurant de l’Hôtel de Ville as the number one restaurant in the world.

There has been much talk over the various methods employed by dining guides around the world (I touched upon the topic when the last World 50 Best list was released, and again when we unveiled our own Top 20 list and 2016 Best Restaurants Guide), and La Liste’s approach is to use cold, hard data. An algorithim, named Ciacco (after one of the damned figures – a gluttonous one – in Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri), feeds on review data taken from trusted food guides and websites – including Hong Kong Tatler Best Restaurants – and generates an overall score for each restaurant.
