The famed kaiseki restaurant from Osaka brings tailored seasonal menus to the Hong Kong dining scene
Kashiwaya, the world-renowned kaiseki restaurant in Osaka, Japan, has earned recognition for its seasonal menus featuring dishes with extremely artistic presentation. This winter, Hideaki Matsuo, owner and head chef of the dining destination in Osaka, has launched the establishment’s Hong Kong branch, now open on On Lan Street, Central.
The restaurant’s name translates as “cypress house”, as wood from this evergreen tree is often used for building shrines and temples in Japan. A luxury today, cypress is synonymous with Japanese high culture and traditions that are upheld through generations. The Japanese restaurant also features fine interior design and decorations by fifth-generation textile dyer and historian Sachio Yoshioka. Traditional elements such as sliding doors and shoji paper screens embellish the stylish dining area, complete with a Japanese style waiting room and three private rooms, each seating up to eight guests.
The new Japanese establishment will feature artistic kaiseki menus that change seasonally. Dishes are presented creatively, as the restaurant aims to impress with stunning visuals as well as satisfaction on the palates of guests.
The seasonal lunch and dinner menus are served daily and will be designed by chef Matsuo and Jun Takahashi, head chef of Kashiwaya Hong Kong.
