From a new wine bar opening to drinks menu, Mid-Autumn specials and more, we're letting you know what's new on the Hong Kong dining scene this week

As we steadily ease into autumn, Hong Kong's restaurants and bars are getting set for a brand new season. Although social distancing rules are still in place, we're still relishing in dining out in groups once more––if only with three friends for now––not to mention enjoying a drink at our favourite bars since they reopened last week.

This week, we've already shared news of the Mandarin Oriental's brand new izakaya, along with Michelin-starred Tempura Uchitsu opening at The Four Seasons and Black Sheep's upcoming Dive Bar––but there's plenty more in store. To keep the good news flowing, we're rounding up everything else that you may have missed from the Hong Kong dining scene this week, from Mid-Autumn festival feasts, to seasonal menus, new bars and more.

Uma Nota debuts new dishes and an ‘Umakase’ dining experience

Getting us all set for the month ahead, Brazilian Japanese restaurant Uma Nota is debuting a brand new menu, along with an exclusive ‘Umakase’ dining experience. Available on October 5 and 6, a five-course (HK350) and a seven-course ($HK450) set dinner will be on offer, featuring never-before-seen Japanese-inspired bites such as Pururuca (crispy pork skin), slow cooked duck leg, Uma Nota nigiri and more. Other new a la carte dishes include soft shell crab (HK$95), mozzarella skewers ($75) and okra and yuba salad (HK$75).

Impossible Sausage launches at 13 new locations

Launched in Hong Kong earlier this month, Impossible Sausage will now be available at over 10 restaurants across the city. While the plant-based meat debuted at Starbucks, it will now be served at locations such as Fini’s, Honbo, Posto Pubblico and more––with dishes including Impossible Sausage pizza (HK$269),  Honbossible sausage muffin (HK$68) and farfalle Salsiccia (HK$169). Hurry, the exclusive dishes will only be available from today until November 20.

Écriture unveils Autumn-winter tasting menu

Two-Michelin-starred Écriture is kicking off the new season with an autumn-winter menu inspired by the finest produce from France and Japan. The Library Of Flavours Dinner Tasting Menu (HK$1,788, plus HK$1,290 for wine pairing) promises to highlight exquisite Japanese seafood, modern French culinary techniques, and quality artisan producers––with dishes including Hokkaido abalone, Basque Country veal sweetbread, Brittany langoustine and petite fours.

Tenku Ryugin to temporarily close ahead of relocation to Central

The Hong Kong location of Tokyo’s three Michelin-starred Tenku Ryugin will be closing at the end of October, ahead of its relocation to Central. After nine-years at its current ICC address, the contemporary kaiseki restaurant will reopen in autumn 2021 with a brand new look.

Chef Enrico Bartolini to open Fiamma at the Peak Galleria

Joining popular Black Sheep Restaurant, Rajasthan Rifles, Italian restaurant Fiamma will be opening at the Peak Galleria this October. Helmed by Michelin-starred chef Enrico Bartolini––who already operates Spiga in Hong Kong––the restaurant will deliver fresh, wholesome comfort food in a relaxed setting. The menu is set to be defined by Mediterranean seasonality that promises family-style Italian cuisine, with everything on offer from freshly baked bread to house-made fresh pastas. Mid-Autumn Barbecue at The Murray

Celebrate Mid-Autumn festival and welcome in cooler weather with The Murray's Barbecue Under The Arches. Available from September 30 to October 3, the event will feature a feast of buffet salads, freshly prepared barbecued vegetables, seafood and meats, and delicate desserts. Priced at HK$628 per person (plus HK$198 for free-flow house wine, beer and soft drinks), the semi-alfresco setting also welcomes dogs, for an additional charge of HK$58.

Chef John Nguyen's family-favourites at Xuân

Opened this past July on Wan Chai's Lun Fat Street, modern Vietnamese eatery Xuân, will be launching a hearty nine-course spread of traditional Vietnamese family favourites. Chef John Nguyen's Com Gia Dinh family meal endeavours to recreate a typical dinnertime feast enjoyed by Vietnamese families at home, consisting of comforting staples such as a nourishing broth, refreshing salad, house-fermented pickles, locally-sourced fish and delicately-prepared shellfish alongside tender and juicy meat for added protein in the form of pork, beef and chicken mains. The family style meal can also be complemented with other new to the menu items including octopus ceviche (HK$138), Xuân soft shell crab (HK$148), Vietnamese-style grilled whole grouper (HK$458) and prime chargrilled Angus hanger steak (HK$398).

Duddell's new salon manager and bar menu for autumn

We all know that Duddell's serves mouth-watering––and all-you-can-eat––dim sum, but along with enjoying the Cantonese fare, the al fresco terrace is also the perfect spot to enjoy a drink. New salon manager, Mario Calderone has curated a range of re-imagined classic cocktails, with highlights including the Champagne Cobbler (HK$160), Duddell’s Sour (HK$140) and Pineapple Julep (HK$140). Those looking to refresh sans alcohol will be able to enjoy a chrysanthemum-infused iced tea (HK$70), or the Basilicious (HK$90)––with cucumber, basil, homemade salted honey, fresh lemon juice, and soda water.

Opening this Monday, September 28, burgundy etc is here to answers the prayers of Burgundy lovers across the city. With over 1,000 wines available and an inventory of 6,000 bottles, burgundy etc will offer Hong Kong’s largest retail selection of Burgundy wines. The shop will also feature a section of over 100 fine champagnes, choice pours from Bordeaux, rare whiskies and sake.
