Updates to social distancing measures mean that restaurants will not be able to operate dine-in services from 6:00pm to 5:00am daily

Hong Kong is experiencing a worrying third wave in coronavirus transmissions, resulting in a frequently updated social distancing measures. First came a serious blow to the hospitality industry as restaurants were told that from 29 July, they would not be allowed to operate dine-in services at all, following two weeks where they had been allowed to serve between 5:00am and 6:00pm. Bars have been shut since 15 July and will be required to stay closed as the city tries to curb the rate of infections. However, just two days after banning all dine-ins, the government made a quick U-turn to allow restaurants to operate dine-ins during the day between 5:00am and 6:00pm starting from 31 July. Despite the relaxation, some predict that this will still have a devastating effect on the city’s F&B industry, seriously affecting up to half of Hong Kong’s 16,000-plus restaurants.

We’ve seen from the last half year that the industry remains resilient. During the early days of the Covid-19 crisis, many restaurants have already put extra effort on their delivery and takeaway services while many bars have used the opportunity to get their bottled cocktails and spirits into the homes of customers via delivery and pick-up. Below is a comprehensive collection of regularly updated information about Hong Kong’s F&B industry operations during Covid-19 measures, from amended opening hours to takeaway and delivery details.
