Transporting guests to the tropical streets of Cuba this August, The Hong Kong Jockey Club curated a colourful world of cocktails, Cuban tapas and neon nights, all reminiscent of Old Havana

In partnership with Tatler Hong Kong, Happy Valley New Clubhouse transformed The Eighth’s Pinnacle and 360 Bar into Club Havana, kicking off a series of spectacular lifestyle events set to offer members an escape from Hong Kong without leaving the city.

An impressive turnout took respite from the mid-summer humidity and attended one of the 12 nights of reggaeton beats, summertime sips and Cuban tapas on the eighth floor of the Happy Valley New Clubhouse.

Between posting snaps of the floral-covered walls and “street market” foyer on Instagram, attendees walked through the streets of Havana, eventually following signs to Pináculo (the pinnacle) where an array of tapas dishes were served by The Eighth’s chef de cuisine Eduardo Gomez.

Fedora-wearing waiters served up authentic bites such as Cuban Iberico pork sandwiches, empanadas filled with Wagyu beef and moros con cristianos, a Cuban rice dish with suckling pig leg, black beans and piquillo peppers.

After dinner, guests headed to the photo booths, taking home a printed souvenir to help them remember their trip to Havana and to keep the holiday vibes going.

Behind the neon-lit bar, mixologist Marko Petrovic conjured up Caribbean cocktails such as Hemingway daiquiris and piña coladas next to an LED wall depicting colonial houses lining cobbled streets and picturesque palm-fringed beaches, to the soundtrack of live DJs. Out on the terrace, amongst a green oasis of calathea, palms and birds of paradise, guests sipped on rum and fresh coconut late into the night.
