An industrial building has been repurposed to house a food and art festival that celebrates all things local. Wong Pei Ting gives you the lowdown on nine things to see, eat, and do.
The new Tasty Plaza on MacTaggart Rd
This is big. Homegrown design agencies ONG&ONG Experience Design, Tofu, Hjgher, and Kult, have combined forces with 8@ate Productions to spark the first edition of Creatory — a food and art festival that takes place from 23-24 August. The festival brings together about 60 of Singapore’s chefs and creative movers and shakers for two days of live art installations, DJ and music performances, feasting, and workshops.
More than 60 local brands will be represented at the event
Here’s a lowdown on nine things to see, eat, and do:
1. Creatory x Morsels five-course degustation supper
Jump the queue with this rooftop dinner on 22 August, featuring a Californian-inspired five-course smoked degustation menu (paired with wine) by the chef-owners of Morsels. This will be their last cook out (or rather, smoke out) before they go on a two-week hiatus to represent Singapore in Copenhagen with their mod-Sin creations.
2. Creatory x Tippling Club five-course wine pairing dinner
40 diners will experience Tippling Club’s avant-garde refinement for a night when Chef Ryan Clift presents a five-course dinner to pair with a flight of Penfolds wines from Australia. Highlights on the menu include a red snapper green curry; wagyu short rib with fermented artichoke, black garlic, and vinegar; and a starter of crab and jamon.

3. Park Bench Deli
Lolla’s Ming Tan and Kyle Henderson unite with The Cajun Kings’ Andrei Soen to form a one-night only partnership known as Park Bench Deli. Together, they will dish out ‘next-level sandwiches’. Think delightfully sinful sandwiches overloaded with pork belly — and more.
4. Janice Wong x Desinere installation
Walk through a food-art installation in a chiller room that houses Melvin Ong’s paper pleated clouds alongside fluffy marshmallows and other edible art by pastry extraordinaire Janice Wong — owner of 2am: dessert bar.

5. Mud Rock x Jeremy Nguee Sunday brunch
Mud Rock Ceramics Studio and Preparazzi’s chef Jeremy Nguee will get together for a cooking experiment on the roof to explore the "primordial nature of food," as shared by Preparazzi on their Facebook. Mysterious.
6. Bjorn Shen x Damian D’Silva Sunday barbeque
Artichoke’s chef-owner Bjorn Shen will collaborate with Immigrant Gastrobar’s chef Damian D’Silva to present dishes such as cornish hen ayam bakar, sambal stuffed squid, intercostal meat satay, and double-cooked pork ribs.

7. A.muse Projects x GSH Conserves ‘Tea Jamming’
Explore the connection between teas and jams with local artisanal tea company A.muse Projects and jam-crafter GSH Conserves. After these sessions, you can choose to stay on for a microgreens workshop by The Wholesome Co where you will learn how to grow your own pots of herbs and garnishes.
8. Singapore hotdog by &SONS
In a nod to the local theme of Creatory, bacaro &SONS will be dreaming up a Singapore hotdog dressed with soy-braised prime beef chilli, red chilli padi, coriander, and parsley.
9. Take in the massiveness of it all
