1. Preface

Preface is a coffee shop that moonlights as a space for learning––with the design said to be the founder's own personal take of how the future classroom will look like. The coffee shop is built with the idea that knowledge thrives on the joy of learning, and what better way to learn than with a coffee at hand?

Other than its caffeinated offerings, you can also find a reading corner, knowledge wall and seating and facilities to interact and mingle with other coffee lovers. The menu is a no-fuss selection of black and white coffee, single origin and a single house special. But if you're looking for something different, a range of non-coffee options are also available.

2. Be Coffee

Be Coffee shouldn't be too hard to find. The red sign with the cafe's name in the window, reminiscent of Hong Kong's mini-bus sign, ensure that this cafe will catch your eye.

This tiny coffee bar is helmed by MeowBox Cafe which owns a cat-themed cafe in Ngau Tau Kok. It's not a surprise that their intricate animal latte art is the main draw here.

Causeway Bay is filled with busy streets, so if you're after a much-needed escape from the frenzy of the district, this cosy sidewalk cafe is the place to be. Passepartout Brunch & Cafe can be easy to miss with no sign to catch your attention––but don't be fooled, the interiors are aesthetically pleasing, drawing in an Instagram crowd with its colourful accents, large windows and sidewalk seating.

We recommend its signature drink, the miso caramel latte, as well as the Cino which can be enjoyed either hot or cold. If you'd like to grab a quick bite, daily desserts are also available, along with brunch-style dishes named after major cities such as Hong Kong, Paris and London.

This Japanese-inspired cafe offers an après-ski vibe so if you're longing to travel to snowy Hakuba, this might just soothe your wanderlust. The interiors are reminiscent of a cute wooden cabin, just like the ones you'd find in ski resorts in Japan. You can choose to be seated at the low tables by the sofa, the normal dining seats or at the outdoor patio to enjoy some sun.

A selection of coffees are on offer, but their signature drink is the hojicha. Whether you're looking for lunch or dinner, this cafe offers both light bites and indulgent meals. The portobello sando is a solid choice, and the beef mountain donburi packs a punch. While the food seems to lean towards modern Japanese fusion, you might also detect hints of Nepali flavours, a unique and unlikely combination thanks to the cafe's Nepali chef.
