6 Soy Speciality Cafés: The Best Tau Fu Fah, Cream Puffs, Soy Soft Serve And More
More and more cafés are putting soy in the spotlight by serving classic and contemporary delights, from 'tau fu fah' to soy soft serve and soy shaved ice
Silky smooth and oh-so satisfying, there are few things better than a comforting scoop of tau fu fah or by a creamy sip of soy milk. That's why we've rounded up six spots in the Klang Valley where you can curb your soy cravings.
Dáo’s offerings often see a cheeky play on words: their classic Dáo Fu Fah can be served with ginger, brown, white or chrysanthemum syrup and garnished with toppings such as red or black sesame paste, osmanthus jelly, and pumpkin glutinous rice balls. Meanwhile, their Dáo Nai (soy milk) can be made with white or black soy beans; the latter has a surprising green tinge, but shouldn’t be mistaken for matcha. While Dáo also offers soy soft serve and Dáo Bing aka beancurd with shaved ice, what catches this writer’s eye is their soy cream puffs, available exclusively on weekends; Dáo recommends dropping them a message to reserve the popular item in advance.

Choose from an extensive range of toppings when you customise your own bowl, such as tangyuan, gingko nuts and konyakku or matcha jelly. Their black sesame jelly cubes are especially distinctive.

Established in Malaysia in February this year, Soypresso originates from Taiwan and says that the composition of their ingredients is "95 per cent soy and 5 per cent joy." The menu is full of charming illustrations of their products, such as fruity 'soy smoothies', soy soft serve and tau fu fah. Reminiscent of a bubble tea shop, Soypresso allows customers to customise their preferred sugar levels, types of syrup and toppings, such as purple rice, taro balls and barley.
