Unlike Nutmeg, which is known for its bustling brunches, DASH of Nutmeg is below the radar (unless you frequent the elevated walkway between Bangsar Village I and II). The secret's out now—this 'food truck' is one of our favourite spots for a quick and quiet meal.

DASH's impressive display of baked goods includes pies (Chicken & Mushroom, Chicken Curry, Salt Beef, Blueberry, Strawberry, Cranberry & Pecan) and close relatives of the pie, such as quiches (Asparagus, Salmon, Spinach) and tarts (Apple Strawberry, Banana Caramel, Blueberry Cheesecake, Chocolate Lava, Crème Brûlée, Lemon Passion Fruuit, Mango Cheesecake, Red Velvet).

Causing quite a stir when it first opened in 2016, GravyBaby is synonymous with its blinding Hollywood-esque signage and loud menu. Choose from the likes of BigBaby Shakes, Chunky Cheesy Chips, Hot Diggidy Dogs, and 6 kinds of pie, including a pescatarian option with smoked haddock, salmon, cod and prawns.

While GravyBaby's branch in Taman Desa has shuttered its doors, the group's first outlet in KL's Golden Triangle (next to the slightly seedy Beach Club) is still doing alright for itself. Two new outlets in Bangsar (end 2019) and Melaka (early 2020) have also sprung up; the latter occupies a prime spot next to the Melaka River.

A godsend for expats with a hankering for hearty, non-halal comfort foods, Frediani’s Market & Deli (same row as McDonalds in Bangsar Baru) serves English breakfasts and roasts that guarantee a post-meal l'abbiocco (the Italian approximation of a 'food coma').

Frediani's operates as both a sit-in restaurant and a takeaway deli, which means that you can get pre-packed pies, sausage rolls, and even Scotch eggs to go in a mere matter of minutes.

If pies were rated by a trifecta of crust, filling and gravy, Pie Kingdom's namesake dish would score 2 out of 3.

While it's easy to polish off one or two of their pies in a single sitting, the lacklustre gravy is strangely sweet and disappointingly watery.

Other oddities include the slate trays used for serving; sans ridges, how does one keep their gravy from spilling? Fans of mushy peas will also be deflated, as a meagre number of peas are merely scattered on top of the mashed potatoes. Only come here to scratch a severe itch for pie.

Despite the aforementioned points and the half-hearted service, Pie Kingdom's prime location in the heart of Bangsar South’s business district keeps caffeine-dependent customers coming.
