Cover Thyme Out

This week we feature Mexican cuisine. Enough talk - ¡Ándale! Es hora de comen.

Mexican cuisine is known for its love of spices and the variety of chiles like the pasila, jalapeno, poblano, chipotle and habanero. It’s also known for its salsa, guacamole, tacos, tortas, burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas, and fajitas. Add to that a cerveza, margharita or a good tequila taken neat and we’ve got all the ingredients for a fiesta with no siesta.

Here are five restaurants fit for the occasion ¡Ándale!

La Mexicana

La Mexicana prides itself on Mexican authenticity. Chef Carmela de Ponte has crafted a menu that uses locally sourced ingredients alongside ingredients imported from Mexico with highlights like their homemade corn tortillas and homemade Mexican cheese. Visit their official website.

Fresca

Fresca is Spanish for ‘fresh’ and Fresca certainly tries to stay that way. Set up to look and feel like a modern Mexican taqueria, Fresca serves up the some of the best Mexican food in town. Highlights here would be their Baja fish tacos, sautéed shrimp tacos and grilled beef tacos. Visit their official website.

Loco

This double storey bar and restaurant at Changkat, Bukit Bintang is not as ‘loco’ as it may want to be. A place to wind down, eat up and party on, Loco serves up Mexican staples like nachos chipotle chilaquiles, burritos and chilli con carne alongside a healthy collection of drinks. Visit their official website.

Thyme Out

Thyme Out and the young men behind it have come along way from a food court to a full-fledged restaurant. Thyme Out leans more towards Texas-Mexican fusion, or Tex-Mex rather than straight-up Mexican, but still present here are good old tacos, quesadillas and burritos. Visit their official website.

La Boca

La Boca.jpg - Thyme Out

La Boca is not exclusively Mexican as it also serves up Latin American cuisine from Argentina, Venezuela and Cuba, but that’s a very good thing because La Boca is a Latino fiesta. So, grab a Margarita or Sangria or a good old cerveza and be assured of a good time. Even their official website is a party.

You can convince yourself all you want, but a margharita isn't a dessert. Soft-serve ice cream is though.
