5 German restaurants worth visiting

Guten Tag! When one thinks of Germany, its finely crafted beer and pork-centric cuisine often comes to mind.

With numerous franchises of various German restaurants and bars located all around the Klang Valley, we have narrowed the list down to five German places that are worth visiting for its authenticity and atmosphere.

Black Forest (Non-Halal)

Amid the bustling restaurants and bars stretch of Changkat Bukit Bintang is Black Forest, one of the more authentic German places in Kuala Lumpur. Not just any regular watering hole where the working class of KL head over to throw back a pint, Black Forest also serves truly genuine German grub that will satisfy the appetite of the most discerning German palate. Aside from the usual schnitzels (pork chops) and haxen (pork knuckles), the "Schwenker" schweinesschulter steak is highly recommended as it contains a grilled pork shoulder steak marinated in paprika, herbs, onions and garlic for 48 hours and comes served with jalapenos and smoked paprika sauce. The Soprano’s Italian-German Restaurant (Non-Halal)

Named after the opera singers with a booming voice and not the family of mobsters from TV, The Soprano’s Italian-German restaurant is famous for, you guessed it, Italian and German cuisine. The Soprano’s do not disappoint when it comes to authentic Italian fare with freshly made kitchen pasta and oven-baked pizzas. The German side of the restaurant also puts up a strong fight with all things pork on the menu. Chef Sergi EV from Sicily has an excellent rendition of the schweinbraten which includes a succulent roast pork bathed in rich, dark beer gravy and paired off with red cabbage and mashed potatoes. Café Berlin

Having been in business since 2013, it is safe to say Café Berlin is the first bakery of its kind to make an appearance in the Klang Valley. Serving modern variations of coffee as well as premium pastries baked from scratch, Café Berlin aims to please when it comes to providing top-quality pastries. Pastries from all around Europe can be found here such as the Italian ciabatta, French baguettes and of course, German schwarzbrot and vollkornbrot, just to name a few. Der Backmeister

Der Backmeister (or The Bakemaster) located at Taman Tun Dr. Ismail is an up-and-coming German bakery staying true to its authenticity when it comes to serving fresh German pastries. With plenty of choices like pretzels, Backmeister Specials, Opa Klaus and Bavarian Multigrain, just to name a few; the selection of breads to choose from at Der Backmeister will leave all pastry aficionados craving for more. The big breakfast served is simply called Der Backmesiter and it's sizable portion is perfect for two to share. Weissbrau Bistro & Bar (Non-Halal)

Located in Malaysia’s premium shopping mall – Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Weissbrau Bistro & Bar is a haven for all husbands, boyfriends and beer connoisseurs who just want to get away from their significant others shopping spree and grab a pint. Weissbrau consists of mainly German and Swiss cuisine that includes humongous wiener schnitzels, crispy pork knuckles and many more.
