For elevated and sumptuous hawker fare, you can’t go wrong with Chatterbox—home of the legendary Mandarin chicken rice. Served since 1971 (when Mandarin Orchard Singapore first opened), the dish consists of meaty strips of tender-boiled chicken served with fragrant jasmine rice and a bowl of flavour-packed chicken consommé, and the familiar accompaniments of ginger, sweet soya sauce and chilli to round off the beautiful flavours. Loyal patrons and curious tourists also come for the restaurant's other signature dishes including the lobster laksa, bobbing with seafood in a rich and spicy broth, and the coconut ice cream with chocolate sauce and walnuts.
