Bar Ishinohana

Tokyo, Japan

A hidden basement bar near Shibuya Station that is a cult favourite among cocktail connoisseurs

Just a short walk from Shibuya Station and hidden in a basement, Bar Ishinohana has all the makings of a Tokyo hidden gem. It’s wonderfully relaxed, yet the quality of its cocktails is superb. Seasonal drinks are the speciality, as owner-bartender Shinobu Ishigaki sources the highest quality fruits and herbs—think highballs elevated with house-made dill and green apple syrup, or his Japanese Old Fashioned, crafted from shiitake-infused whisky with maple syrup, umami bitters and rose negroni. Ishigaki clearly has a gift for combining flavours and aromas, breathing new life into classic drinks with his creative concoctions. If you’re feeling adventurous, leave your order to him—he’s known to create at least three new cocktails each month.

Tatler Tip

Don’t be afraid to visit even if you’re going dry for the day. Ishigaki’s range extends to non-alcoholic tipples which are equally tasty.
