Our annual readers’ choice survey is back, with new and expanded categories to highlight the achievements and resilience of those in the industry

The past year, we have seen far too many restaurant closures and heard plenty of stories of hardship from the F&B industry struck by the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. As the city rides out wave after wave of challenges, it has been inspiring to witness the myriad ways in which the community have fought them head on. The Hong Kong spirit is the very definition of resilience and, now that we are in October, the time seems right to start taking stock of how hard everyone has worked over the last 12 months.

Each year, we seek to recognise the efforts of those in F&B through our annual Best Restaurants guide and Best Restaurants awards, which would normally launch in November. While 2020 will be the first time the awards night will not take place in its eight-year history, our special edition dining guide will be released in early November and will highlight the restaurants and bars we love and support—think of it as a compendium of the reasons why the city’s dining scene is so treasured, as vouched for and written by our community of food lovers.

We’re also pleased to launch the latest edition of our Readers’ Choice Awards, which spotlights the hard work of the industry in one of the most difficult times in recent memory. Nominees for Best New Restaurant and Best New Bar have returned, while we have included additional categories to reflect the unique context of 2020—from Best Takeaway and Delivery Initiative to The Impact Award, which recognises the efforts of those who have gone a step further to help the dining industry. Our Rising Star Award, back for the second year, has a record 14 nominees—a testament to the talents being incubated in the city, and a reminder that there are still plenty of people hustling and working hard despite the year’s setbacks.

We also want to hear about anything else happening on the dining scene that has impressed, which is why we’ve included an extra section for voters to let us know their thoughts.

The survey closes on 11 October 2020 and the final results of the survey will be announced in November 2020—so start spreading the word.
