Avartana
Traditional South Indian cuisine meets fine-dining in one of Chennai’s most historic hotels
Tucked inside the ITC Grand Chola, Avartana cooks South Indian cuisine for the contemporary diner. The restaurant takes its name from the Sanskrit word for rhythm and mysticism, and this magical quality extends from the gilded copper-and-amber-hued interiors to the menu. Here, composition and plating become a work of art, allowing the bold flavours and indigenous ingredients of the southern peninsula to exist in renewed, unexpected form. Think lamb brain fritters, tomato rasam (a soup) and idiyappam (string hopper dish) with asparagus and coconut stew. Dishes are curated across five tasting experiences that range from seven to 13 courses, with a pairing of spice-led cocktails available.
