Alto

Western   |   $ $ $ $   |   Causeway Bay

Dining Concepts' latest restaurant promises good value to steakhouse staples, stylish design and great view

With its canopy of 230 golden Melt lightshades, black tables, banquettes and booths, green marble and blond timber floors, Alto, a modern bar and grill in Causeway Bay created by celebrated British designer Tom Dixon certainly makes an impression. More attention grabbing is the views of the city’s skyscrapers and Victoria Harbour through wraparound floor-to-ceiling windows. Closely spaced tables and hard surfaces mean that noise levels can be high, and the crowd is a mix of fashion-industry types, shoppers and office workers. Steaks feature prominently on the menu, including a whopping 40oz USDA Prime tomahawk. Vegetarians and non-beef eaters are also catered for and portions are large. The wine list is a tour of the world’s major wine regions, from France and Italy to Australia and the USA. Service is friendly and accommodating, making Alto a good option for those in search of a smart venue that won’t break the bank.

Must Try

  • USDA prime tenderloin
  • Sous-vide chicken breast
  • Beetroot cured salmon
