Urban Home Design founders Ken and Emma

Founded by design director Ken Wong and executive director Emma Yii in 2018, Urban Home Design was born out of a passion to shape homes that truly reflect the people who live in them. The founders' passion for interior design started young as both hail from families in the construction and steelwork industries. This sparked a deep appreciation for design and the precision that goes into building and creating spaces. Over time, it inspired the founders to see design as more than aesthetics. To them, design is a way to improve how people live, feel and connect with their surroundings, and this led to them establishing Urban Home Design.

Graduating with a degree in business administration, co-founder Yii laid a strong foundation in management, organisation and strategic thinking before venturing into the creative world of interior design. Wong, on the other hand, came from an engineering background. This gave him a practical, solutions-driven mindset and a deep understanding of structural consideration. Together, the two have accumulated over eight years of hands-on experience that saw them working across diverse residential and commercial projects.

"These years have shaped our belief that every space must strike a meaningful balance between aesthetic beauty and everyday functionality. A home should not only look elegant; it should make life smoother, calmer, and more enjoyable for the people who live in it," state Wong and Yii.

"We constantly push our boundaries and elevate our craft so that Singaporean homeowners receive a level of service that feels genuinely international. This pursuit of excellence is deeply rooted in our culture—we never stop refining and innovating. We’re most proud of  our unwavering dedication to people. We invest wholeheartedly in discovering and nurturing talent, building a team that grows together and sets a new benchmark for the interior design industry," they add.

The master suite on the top floor adopts a boutique-hotel feel with a shaker-panelled entry, a lounge-like living zone, and a serene private sleeping area. Full-height reeded glass brings in soft daylight while maintaining intimacy
The three-storey home is intentionally zoned to support the rhythms of a family of seven; the ground floor is an elderly-friendly suite, the second floor is dedicated to the children, while the top floor houses the master suite and another bedroom
The overall aesthetic draws from dark modern minimalism
The family lounge located outside the children’s room is designed as a shared space for bonding, perfect for movie nights, gaming sessions and quiet conversations
Materials such as EDL Katovik Noce give the home depth and richness, while low-formaldehyde plywood ensures a safe environment
Thoughtful details, such as waterproof boards in the wet kitchen, a rounded corner to resolve a structural beam, and a dining island with concealed wireless charging, ensure practicality is seamlessly integrated into daily life
Bathrooms are designed with soft, corner lighting and textured finishes to create a crafted, luxurious experience
