Founded in July 2023, SQM2 Interior Design is a boutique studio built on a simple belief: a home should feel personal rather than shaped by fleeting trends. Founder and Creative Director Don Wong leads a two-person team, working closely with clients to create homes that are practical, timeless and tailored to the people who live in them.
Wong’s path to design was unconventional. After graduating from NAFA with a Diploma in Visual Communication, he began his career as a graphic designer before becoming an Art Director at Leo Burnett. A later role freelancing for an interior and architecture magazine, where he art directed and styled home photoshoots, proved pivotal. Seeing how thoughtful design could transform the way people live inspired him to learn the industry from the ground up and eventually establish SQM2.
“I want to create homes with a human touch, where every home tells a story,” says Wong. “Every client is different, with their own lifestyle, personality and daily routines. That’s why I don’t believe in designing the same home twice.” Every project begins with listening, with the goal of creating spaces that are beautiful, practical and enduring.
That philosophy led him to start his own practice. Clients, he found, wanted more than a well-designed home; they wanted a trusted partner who understood their lifestyle and aspirations. Through SQM2, Wong offers a highly personalised approach, combining thoughtful design with hands-on project management from concept to completion.
Rather than following trends, Wong’s work is guided by simplicity, timeless aesthetics and careful attention to light, materials and spatial flow. Many projects come through referrals, returning clients and readers who have discovered his work through magazine and newspaper features. “Success is not only measured by the quality of the finished space,” he says, “but by the lasting impact it has on the people who experience it every day.”
