Hock Hoon

Now a renowned interior design firm, not everyone knows that Hock Hoon started in 1992 as a furniture and carpentry company. Back in the day, founder Ng Chin Hock enlisted his son as his apprentice in the workshop, where a young Ng Ci En began crafting bespoke carpentry at the age of 11. Eventually, he took over the company and revamped it into an interior design firm in 2019, extending his father's legacy and love of exquisite carpentry by making it the heart of the firm's design ethos. "As I grew up, I learned to appreciate beauty in natural materials and their assembly, as well as their relationship to the human body and the extensions that form spatial elements," Ng shares. "Those lessons in the workshop awakened my curiosity about my immediate environment and design."

The firm now operates with a tight-knit team of seven, including the three directors—Ng overseeing projects, Soh Xin Hui managing FF&E, and Chua Min Sheng running operations. The team's creative philosophy is centred around their attention to detail and craft, shaping ageless residential spaces that reflect each owner’s lifestyle beyond the surface. "We do not believe in styles or trends, but rather design timeless interiors," Ng says. "Every project is unique in our eyes, as we believe in designing an experience around the client’s lifestyle, breaking boundaries and thinking out of the box," he adds.

Beyond his extensive experience working with wood from a young age, where he learned invaluable hands-on lessons in materiality, Ng brings further design experience to the table, having completed a stint at a local boutique interior design studio and partnered with Passion Wood Works before taking over Hock Hoon. Co-director Chua similarly spent his formative years in the industry, working under established firms such as FDAT Architects, Monocot, and Anthracyte Studio, where he gained experience in a range of typologies, including apartments, landed houses, and commercial spaces.

Soh worked with Laank and Architology Interiors, completing high-end commercial spaces and residential apartments. As the director of Hock Hoon's FF&E department, she curates unique pieces for each space. One of her recent projects, Hitotema Home, was crowned the Popular Choice Winner at the Architizer A+ Awards 2025 and won the Luminary award at the Singapore Interior Design Awards 2025.
