Tatler Asia

Artistroom was founded back in 2008 by husband-and-wife duo Mark Chen and Katy Chong. They now oversee a small, tight-knit team of five, including the two founders, with Chen taking care of sales and daily operations while Chong and the rest of the team handle the design.

Firm believers in the power of space planning, the team’s key priority is to develop an in-depth understanding of their clients’ habits and requirements to produce functional designs, often characterised by ample storage space and layouts that facilitate easy maintenance. This is underscored by Artistroom’s slogan: “Make it. Use it. Feel it”. As Chen tells us, this emphasis on space planning as the most important aspect of an interior space stems from its impact, determining “efficiency and functionality to meet individual needs.”

Looking back on 17 years of running his own design practice, he remembers the inspiration that first led him to found Artistroom, striving to make his own rules and follow his and Chong’s creative intuition. Craving the freedom to create things their own way, they have stayed the course and stood the test of time, crafting one successful project after another.

The original kitchen, previously an enclosed space by the entrance, was opened up to form a welcoming dry kitchen with an island
The separate wet kitchen is neatly concealed behind sliding glass doors to contain cooking fumes while maintaining a visual connection
Timber cladding plays a unifying role throughout the apartment, from the entrance foyer and kitchen to the study and master bedroom
A new walk-in wardrobe was integrated into the master suite, concealed behind flush doors
