In the first episode of Tatler Malaysia’s Tatler Tours series, our friends from The Good Food Trio Lissa Yeoh and Yeoh Way Cheng take us around their favourite spots in Ampang, and reveal some gems worth sharing
When we approached Lissa Yeoh and Yeoh Way Cheng to share what they love most about Ampang, arguably one of Klang Valley’s most coveted addresses, they were only all too happy to oblige. After all, Ampang is more than just home to them—it’s also where their Good Food Trio story began.
For the uninitiated, gastronomic powerhouses Lissa and Way Cheng, together with their friend Yuen Yin Sze-To, co-own and operate a handful of wildly popular restaurants including La Risata, The Daily Grind, and Bijan. The three brands have since taken the Kuala Lumpur gourmet scene by storm but The Good Food Trio’s adventure really began with the opening of the first La Risata, an establishment that serves rustic Italian fare, in Persiaran Ampang, Kuala Lumpur in 1996.

“Ampang is a big neighbourhood but the community is quite small so in that sense it’s very friendly,” Lissa said, adding that whether it’s at the nearby grocer’s or the prestigious Royal Selangor Golf Club, she’s bound to run into friends. As purveyors of good food, the culinary maestros shared the ease of finding a nice cup of freshly-brewed coffee or a delectable spread of wholesome Malaysian cuisine.
Lauding Ampang’s convenience, Lissa and Way Cheng also highlighted the self-sufficient neighbourhood’s enviable selection of luxury malls (for their shopping fix), pedestrian walkability, state-of-the-art hospitals, schools (public, private, and international), and easy access to wider Klang Valley. In fact, Lissa and Way Cheng send their children to the International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) and Mutiara International Grammar School respectively.
