Skip the two-hour long land transfer with Mabuhay Maritime Express

Tourists who have been to the paradise island know that transfers from Kalibo Airport to Boracay can get tiresome, having to power through a two-hour bus ride then a boat ride to the island itself. With the aim of providing a more convenient and faster alternative, Philippine Airlines subsidiary Mabuhay Maritime Express (MME) will be setting sail soon to carry tourists to and from Boracay.

From Kalibo Airport, passengers bound for Boracay will be transported via exclusive bus shuttle service to MME’s brand new, private ferry terminal situated 10 minutes away. At the terminal, there will be restaurants and stalls selling food and drinks and comfortable rest rooms for use. From the terminal, the MME ferry will sail for just about an hour and a half and arrive at Cagban port in Boracay. There is no trip timetable available at this time, but MME is expecting to provide eight roundtrip voyages daily.

MME’s current fleet include two brand new 42-metre tri-class Damen catamarans that can accommodate 410 passengers in the following scheme: 54 first class seats, 70 premium class spots, and 286 regular slots. MV Magalang and MV Malambing’s amenities include Wi-Fi connectivity, reclining seats for higher classes, charging ports, and snacks and drinks on board.

MME is a project that was three years in the making, with the purpose of offering travellers seamless air to sea transfer with its inter-island operations. For now, its only route is Kalibo to Boracay, but they are open to serving other destinations within the Philippines. According to MME President Jaime Bautiista, passengers can expect the same “buong pusong alaga” service of Philippine Airlines when they board the ferries. Also, passengers can book tickets ahead of time online once the system is in place.
