Founder of luxury lifestyle café Cha Bei and assistant vice president of Lifestyle Curation at Galaxy Entertainment Group, Joanna Lui shares her travel tips and tricks
Last trip?
We were just in Beijing to see the second part of a reciprocal exhibition sponsored by Galaxy, between the Grimadi Forum in Monaco and the Forbidden City in Beijing. This one was entitled ‘Princes and Princesses of Monaco, a European dynasty’. It was a showcase of rare pieces from Monaco’s Royal Court, including the Sovereign’s Throne. In the first part, we saw pieces from Chinese Imperial Court life on display in Monaco.
Next trip?
Unless business takes me elsewhere first, hopefully a late summer escape back to the Mediterranean, but there is an excursion to Bhutan we’re also dreaming of.
What do you love the most about travelling?
Discovery—I have a need to see something I haven’t before. I love tasting another culture through its food, and I love some alone time just casually exploring places with my husband, usually on foot. Otherwise, I’m always on the look out for ideas, innovations and inspirations for new creative projects.
Most memorable travel experience?
It would really be difficult to choose one, especially in our line of work which affords us so much travel. Usually, once a year (I’m not sure if this will change now that we have a baby at home), my husband finds a unique but beautiful place—somewhere a little off the usual mass travel map, for us to hide out. We spend a week to disconnect from work (as much as possible) and focus on reconnecting with ourselves. Those probably stand out.
And the worst?
These days, it would have to be any time our daughter Ella is grumpy while we are on the road, as I’m sure any mother could relate to.
