In a bid to attract more tourists in the lovely island of Mindanao, the Department of Tourism launched 'Colours of Mindanao' to campaign for the diverse cultures, landscapes, and gastronomy in the area
Mindanao is among the places in the Philippines where culture is evidently alive. The place is home to 18 Lumad tribes, 13 ethnic-linguistic Moro tribes, and 64 settler groups who have walked the island for over a century. Because of this, the Department of Tourism (DOT) launched 'Colours of Mindanao,' which mirrors the land's rich cultural diversity and the activities it offers to newcomers.
The campaign was spearheaded by Undersecretary for Mindanao Myra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakar and the regional directors of Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, CARAGA, the Davao region, and SOCCSKSARGEN—Mindanao’s five regions.
In her opening message, Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat noted that while each province is known for their unique attributes “this is the first time that the whole of Mindanao is united under one banner.”
“What a colourful banner it is, with each hue representing a tourism product that is part of an inter or intraregional circuit. This campaign is timely and significant, as we just recently reopened the Philippines to international tourism,” she further explained.
