Ready for kickoff? These places around town boast bar bites, alcohol, live entertainment and more to make your football season even more exciting

The highly anticipated Fifa World Cup 2022 (and probably the most controversial in history) will be kicking off in Qatar from November 20 to December 18. Despite intense international scrutiny of Qatar’s human rights record, the first World Cup to be held in the Middle East is set to go ahead as planned with the wealthy nation pumping billions into stadiums and infrastructure in anticipation of the four-week-long event. 

This World Cup will see 32 nations competing for the coveted trophy and global bragging rights as the best international team worldwide.

As we count down to the games, some eager fans in Singapore are already gearing up to watch the games from the comfort of their own homes. 

However, if you prefer to catch the matches surrounded by other fans to soak in the atmosphere, there are just as many community centres, bars and restaurants that will be broadcasting the live matches over the course of the next few weeks.

1. Muddy Murphy’s

Is there anything better than watching the World Cup in an Irish pub with an ice-cold pint? This year, Muddy Murphy’s, arguably one of the most popular sports bars in Singapore, will be screening the 2022 World Cup on their six large television screens that will be located strategically around the bar. 

In addition to themed bites and deals on beers, the bar will also be holding a competition for fans to guess who will emerge on top with the winner standing a chance to win a three-night stay in the winning country as well as other prizes.

2. Ce La Vi

This one is for the fans hoping for one final rager as the football season winds down. Ce La Vi will be holding an epic screening of the World Cup Finals on its 65-inch television screen in the Club Lounge and Skybar.

Fans will be invited to wear their favourite team jerseys and to enjoy the match all while the atmosphere is electrified by DJs who will be spinning throughout the night against a stellar view of the city.

3. Cafe Football Singapore

Cafe Football Singapore has long been a favourite of football fans hoping to catch the action in a bar with excellent vibes. Partially owned by former Manchester United players, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville, the cafe will be screening the World Cup matches during the season.

Here, you can enjoy the matches while enjoying its football-inspired menu that features award-winning pizzas, burgers and, of course, beers.

4. Lantern

Located in The Fullerton Bay Hotel, Lantern is a bar with panoramic views of Marina Bay and huge screens for you to enjoy the match. 

Here, you can dig into delectable bites such as black Angus beef tacos or a hearty shakshuka while sipping on cocktails and beers as you enjoy the epic showdown between the world’s best football teams. 

5. Molly Malone's Irish Pub

The Irish certainly know how to commemorate a good sporting event and this year, Molly Malone’s Irish Pub will be screening the Fifa World Cup in its cosy bar.

Besides a generous happy hour which lasts till 8 pm, you will be able to enjoy traditional favourites such as a Friday roast, Molly’s famous fish and chips, all-day breakfast, sandwiches and more all while soaking in the atmosphere and the games. 

6. BQ Bar

BQ Bar is a sports ball in Singapore that is upbeat, lively and extremely entertaining when it comes to some of the bigger football games throughout the year. 

This year, the bar will be broadcasting the World Cup on its numerous screens within the bar as well as on its terrace and along the side street where it offers al fresco seating.

There is also a generous happy hour which starts as early as 11 am till 8 pm while serving pizzas, bar bites and more.

7. Changi Airport

Yes, you read that right. Changi Airport may be a hot spot for shoppers, diners, movie-goers and now—football fans. This season, Changi Airport will be showing all the 2022 Fifa World Cup matches at the basement level of Terminal 3.

You can enjoy the show while seated on the giant steps located right in front of the widescreen. Make sure you come early to secure your spot!

8. Community clubs, Sports centres, Safra clubhouses

This week, in anticipation of the games, Singapore announced that residents will be able to catch the games at about 70 different community clubs, ActiveSG sports centres and Safra clubhouses.

There will be live screenings at 58 community clubs and five ActiveSG sports centres over the next few weeks, according to the People’s Association (PA), Sport Singapore and the National Library Board. The December 17 and 18 third-placing matches will be shown at The Plaza at the National Library Building.

In addition to getting to enjoy the matches with fellow fans, guests will also be treated to sideline activities such as e-sports, mini-football challenges, foosball table games, live performances and more.

The timings and dates of when the different matches will be screened can be found on the People’s Association website and fans have been advised to check the timings before heading down as not all matches will be screened at every location.

9. The Singapore Sports Hub

Want to experience the thrill of one of the greatest sporting events in the world? There’s nothing better than to watch it in a stadium itself. If you missed out on tickets to the actual World Cup, watching a screening at the Singapore Sports Hub may be your next best option.

You can watch live matches on the stadium’s giant LED screen, enjoy football pick-up games and even a World Cup museum exhibit. 

There will also be live music and entertainment for fans who come down for the matches.
