Sean Tan aka Dante Chen marks his debut match with a win in the recent WWE outfit on September 21. Here are five things to know about Singapore and Southeast Asia's first WWE performer

Singapore has many personalities who have taken themselves abroad and made a name for themselves. And, for the first time, we can add a wrestling star to our list. Enter, Sean Tan—who goes by the stage name Dante Chen—who is Singapore's first wrestling performer to enter the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) outfit. 

The 25-year-old Tan, made his debut on September 21 winning his first match against the American Trey Baxter, a fellow wrestler in the WWE promotion. 

Excited by the prospects of his first win in his debut match, Tan took to Twitter saying: “Go for the wins, they lead to championships.”

 With that said, here are five facts about Singapore's first WWE performer.

1. His Favourite Wrestler

Like many of his peers, Tan grew up immersed in the WWE's expansive library of media. Catching not only the matches on television but also playing video games that featured WWE performers, such as his idol and WWE hall-of-famer, Shawn Michaels.

2. His First Moniker

Tan may appear to be a newcomer on the wrestling scene but he has actually been in the wrestling sphere for a while now. In fact, he started his wrestling career in 2012, when he joined the Singapore Pro Wrestling (SPW) school, then going by the stage name Trexxus.

3. A Self-Funded Journey

In the nascent stages of his wrestling career, Tan had to take up a part-time job as a banquet server to fund his professional career. This was amongst his educational commitments at the time, which was a business course at ITE College West, as well as a health management and promotion course at Republic Polytechnic.

4. Among New Asian Recruits to Join the WWE

The wrestling sphere has played host to many Asian wrestlers on an international stage. However, Tan stands out as the first Southeast Asian wrestler to be inducted into this renowned wrestling promotion. 

As of July 2021, Tan was recruited alongside China's own Feicheng Wang and Jie Yin, making him one of the three Asian wrestlers to land a contract in the WWE tryouts hosted in Shanghai this year.

5. A Floridian Resident

Between signing his contract in July and his debut match on September 21, Tan has since moved to Orlando, Florida. Where he will not only be performing in future matches but also continue to receive training alongside his fellow newly-minted WWE wrestlers at the WWE Performance Centre in Florida.
