今年已經 35 歲的梅西，可能已經是他最後一次參與世足賽，他也成功的帶領阿根廷奪下金盃可說是相當完美的世足結局。梅西於 11 歲時被醫生診斷出患有荷爾蒙生長激素分泌不足的生長激素缺乏症，雖然巴塞隆納足球隊幼軍給他醫療資源，但是因為瘦小的身材也讓當時許多專業人士評論，「他太瘦弱了，將會面對很多挫折。」確實因為瘦小的身材讓他在球場上吃了不少虧，但梅西終究用實力證明自己。
