The Manila underpass, nestled right beside the famed Manila City Hall, has gained popularity after it underwent a spectacular makeover sometime in 2020. What used to be a murky passageway transformed into a modern and spacious path thanks to new light installations, murals, and the newly-renovated Books From Underground.

The bookstore offers a variety of local and international titles for a reasonably low price. Interested buyers may also order online through their official Facebook page.

2. Solidaridad Bookshop, Ermita, Manila

The Solidaridad bookshop in Ermita, Manila, which the late National Artist for Literature, F. Sionil Jose founded and curated in 1965, still thrives today. It offers a wide selection of the most popular foreign and Filipino literature, which guests can browse in peace. 

Among the well-known people who have set foot in the place are Czech Republic’s ambassador to the Philippines Jaroslav Olsa Jnr., and the Danish publisher Vagn Pleng.

3. Anáhaw Books

Anáhaw has a wide selection of Filipiniana books that touch on architecture, art, and history. Owned by Miguel Angeles and Rajiv Daswani, the bookstore continues to sell local titles to the international market through its humble Instagram account, @AnahawBooks.

People interested in arts and culture may find themselves at home on Pioneer Street, Mandaluyong, where Artbooks PH is located. The place serves as a bookworm's haven of clean, white interiors with stacks of wooden bookshelves.

Besides being a peaceful nook, Artbooks PH also offers an array of local titles that focus on the interests of artists and art enthusiasts alike.

5. Tradewinds, Intramuros, Manila

In the old Walled City of Manila lies Tradewins, a small bookstore with an extensive collection of Filipiniana titles.
