Tatler Friends Tell Us What They Love About Christmas in 2020
As the year draws to a close, there's a lot to look forward to this Christmas, as we meet up with loved ones and family for an intimate celebration (while practising Covid-19 measures, of course). Ahead of the festive holiday, we ask our society friends what they love and treasure most about Christmas.
Christmas is a time for reflection, that’s very very important. It’s a time to decide what your resolution will be for the year and to also look back on the year. I count my blessings, that’s the most important thing, and Christmas really brings it up because it’s a family time.
—Dick Lee, singer-songwriter, playwright and film director
I love Christmas because it’s a happy and festive time of the year. The whole family gets together for a potluck, and then we all eat our favourite food—I’ll do a turkey, and there will be lots of fabulous desserts.
—June Goh-Rin, senior consultant of neuro- anaesthesia and neuro- critical care at Singapore General Hospital
Christmas is a time of giving and receiving as well. For me, Christmas means spending time with the family, having a good time, and of course, it’s always a time for showing your kindness.
—Shabnam Arashan, lawyer
What I love about Christmas is my husband Tony’s traditional Christmas turkey. My children enjoy it very much, and if they are here in town, we would celebrate together over a feast in Singapore.
—Genevieve Peggy Jeffs, philanthropist
Christmas is a time when my whole family gets together. And the process of gift selection and gift exchange is pure joy. It just brings happiness to everyone.
—Dana Cheong, committee member of Kidz Horizon Appeal and George Washington Ball
I love Christmas because it is the most wonderful time of the year. I always remember the merriment, the festivities, the presents, the feast that we have—and the turkey is a must.
