#StopAsianHate Heads to Clubhouse With Margaret Cho and Lisa Ling Keynotes
Over the last few weeks, the #StopAsianHate movement has gained considerable steam online, with influencers, activists, and brands taking public stands as allies and supporters of the Asian American Pacific Island (AAPI) community, which has been subject to increasing levels of violence across North America since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. In New York City alone, the police department noted a 1,900 per cent surge in hate crimes targeting Asian Americans over the course of last year.
As lawmakers and community organisers activate education and enforcement campaigns in affected areas, next week, the fight moves online to the buzzy social media app Clubhouse, where upstart Clubhouse club LA Food Gang, run by editor Andy Wang, restaurateur Crystal Coser, and television host and podcaster Yu Tsai will host a star-studded fundraiser benefitting the non-profit organisation Off Their Plate, which will distribute the funds to struggling AAPI-owned restaurants to make meals for AAPI community organisations.
Beginning on March 3 at 5 p.m. PST (that's 9 a.m. HKT on March 4), the LA Food Gang will host "Let's Eat Together." Wang, Coser, and Tsai will moderate an A-list panel, where comedian Margaret Cho and journalist Lisa Ling will deliver keynotes.
Guest speakers at "Let's Eat Together" will include:
- Food editor Ruth Reichl
