1. It's a girl!

In February, on the anniversary of Princess Diana’s announcement that she was expecting a second child, Meghan and Harry announced that they were pregnant with their second baby. This was after Meghan announced that she suffered a miscarriage in late 2020.

Today, they share the gender of their baby with Oprah. Yes, Archie will have a baby sister! Talk about the most dramatic (and possibly broadcasted) gender reveal party ever.

2. Meghan and Harry confirm that “two is it”

With the announcement of the gender, Harry said: “Just grateful. To have any child, any one or any two, would have been amazing. But to have a boy and then a girl, I mean what more can you ask for? Now we've got our family, we got the four of us and our two dogs.”

The couple confirms that their family is done and “two is it”.

3. Meghan reveals why her son Archie isn’t a prince

When Oprah asked, "How did they explain to you that your son, the great-grandson of the Queen, wasn't going to be a prince?"

Meghan replied, "They didn't want him to be a prince ... which would be different from protocol, and that he wasn't going to receive security." Before Archie was born, his parents were told that he was not entitled to security, and only to a courtesy title, Earl of Dumbarton. They turned it down and he is known as Archie Mountbatten-Windsor instead.

4. Racism reared its ugly head, during her first pregnancy

In Meghan’s words, someone in the royal family raised the issue of the colour of the baby’s skin when she was pregnant, and followed up by saying that Harry had to have a conversation with a royal insider about it. When Oprah asked Harry to elaborate later on in the interview, he flatly said that he would not speak about it.

5. Harry, Meghan and Archie were cut off and depended on inheritance from Princess Diana

Harry dropped a bombshell mid-interview: “My family cut me off in the first quarter of 2020”. And that they have lived on the inheritance from his mother.

“My family literally cut me off financially and I had to afford security for us,” he added. “I have got all that my mum left me. Without that, we would not have been able to do this.”

Princess Diana fans are definitely getting emotional about this part, now knowing that the only family providing for him in this toughest time yet, is his mother.

6. The family stayed at Tyler Perry’s mansion prior to purchasing their own home

When they first moved out of Canada to Los Angeles to start a new life, they sought refuge in American billionaire and Hollywood mogul Tyler Perry’s mansion prior to buying their own property. They met Tyler through mutual friend Oprah Winfrey.

A source said, "They're really grateful to Tyler Perry for his kindness," after the director gave the couple the use of his property when they first moved to the United States. "They have endless gratitude to him for helping them during a complicated time.”

7. Now the family home is a US$14.5 million estate

It didn’t take long for Harry and Meghan to get their footing with deals with Netflix—said to be worth more than US$100million—and Spotify, worth US$40million. With that, the family has also moved into their own home, a Mediterranean-style mansion in Montecito, Califonia, with rescue dogs and chickens.

Oprah asked: “What does it feel like here. What’s the word?”

Meghan’s reply: “Peace”.

As a reference, Oprah is in the same vicinity, with a 70-acre estate worth over US$100 million.

8. Harry reveals how painful it was for Meghan when Archie was born

“I'm really proud of us, you know?” Harry told Oprah. “I'm so proud of my wife. Like, she safely delivered Archie during a period of time that was so cruel and so mean. Every day I was coming home to Meghan crying and breastfeeding Archie ... We did what we had to do.”

9. Archie’s favourite words

Archie's favourite word was 'hydrate' for a while. "In these past couple weeks it has been 'hydrate.' Which is just hysterical," says Meghan. Archie also tells people to "drive safe" all the time now. Is that Princess Diana coming through or what? We’re getting the chills.

10. Why bike rides are extra special to Prince Harry

Harry talks about how his life is now: "This year has been crazy for everybody. But to have outdoor space where I can go for walks with Archie and go for walks as a family and with the dogs. All of these things are just—I guess the highlight for me is sticking him on the back of a bicycle in his little baby seat and taking him on bike rides which is something I was never able to do when I was young. I can seat him on the back and he's got his arms out and he's like 'woah!'"
