Blackpink is truly giving fans what they want in 2021.
Blinks have reason to finally celebrate as the K-pop girl group’s rapper, Lisa, made her highly-anticipated solo debut on Friday (September 10).
The Thai artist first released a teaser on her Instagram page, captioning the post: “My first single album release 2021.09.10 1PM (KST).”
She shared an all-new image of her posing in a red bandana-print two-piece set and braided grey balayage pigtails.
Her debut solo, Lalisa, dropped on Friday and has shattered records with over 117 million views on YouTube and counting. The star, whose real name is Lalisa Manoban, also paid tribute to her home country in the music video. She wore a custom traditional outfit designed by Thai label Asava and also included Thai choreography as part of the dance for her song.
“I was talking to producer Teddy Park and wanted to put a Thai vibe in my song, and he came up with an arrangement that had the perfect Thai mood. I loved it,” Lisa told UK newspaper Metro.
Fans have been asking for a solo release from the stylish starlet for a long time.
YG Entertainment, the group’s label, had announced late last year that Lisa, whose real name is Lalisa Manoban, was already working on solo material. However, it stopped short of confirming an official release date and did not provide any more details.
Since then, fans have only heard rumours of an upcoming solo album by Lisa but no other information. And now, according to a report on streetwear fashion site Hybebeast, it seems like the Thai singer’s solo debut is set for this summer.
“Blackpink member Lisa is shooting a music video for her solo debut. We will be revealing more details soon,” YG Entertainment told Hypebeast at the time.
Back in April, The Korea Herald reported that a YG Entertainment spokesperson could only say that “Lisa is still working hard [on the album]”. The official added that Lisa’s schedules will be announced by the label.
Lisa’s solo debut will make her the third member of Blackpink to release her own material. Jennie had her solo debut back in 2018 with her single Solo, while Rose dropped her two-track EP -R- last month.
