Song Joong-ki is on a roll! The Vincenzo star is set to play the male lead in JTBC’s upcoming revenge-reincarnation K-drama

Fresh off the global success of Netflix’s Vincenzo, top Hallyu star Song Joong-ki is ready to take on another dark role. Titled, Chaebol Family’s Youngest Son, the K-drama is scheduled to start production in the second half of 2021.

Here’s what we know about Chaebol Family’s Youngest Son so far:

The plot

Also known as The Youngest Son of a Conglomerate, the K-drama will be based on a popular Kakao web novel of the same name by San Kyeong.

The plot revolves around the story of a protagonist who was accused of embezzlement of funds by the Sunyang Group chaebol (a large family-owned business conglomerate) family, who he had been loyal to for more than a decade.

After being killed by the family, the narrative then follows the boy’s reincarnation as their youngest son and his ultimate plan to take over the entire chaebol family to avenge his misery.

The cast

Song is set to play Sunyang Group's family secretary Yoon Hyun-woo, who dies after being framed for embezzlement and later miraculously reborn as the family’s youngest son, Jin Do-joon. Multiple award-winning actor Lee Sung-min, best known for his role in the 2018 espionage film The Spy Gone North, has been confirmed for the role of the relentlessly competitive and ruthless Jin Yang-chul, the head of Sunyang Group.

Other potential cast members include Girls’ Generation’s Tiffany Young, who has reportedly been offered the role of Rachel Arief, the Korean-American CEO of Miracle Investments. The K-pop star, who has been actively promoting her solo activities, recently starred as the leading role of Roxie Hart in the South Korean musical production of the Broadway hit, Chicago. If Tiffany accepts the role, she'll be making her small screen debut with this drama.

Hospital Playlist actress Shin Hyun-bin, on the other hand, is in talks to play prosecutor Seo Min-young who works at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office. Her character is Do-joon’s rival in law school and his love interest as well.

The team

Chaebol Family’s Youngest Son will be helmed by director Jung Dae-oon and written by screenwriter Kim Tae-hee. Jung boasts an impressive resume of previous works including 2015’s She Was Pretty and 2016’s popular fantasy-romance W: Two Worlds Apart.

Meanwhile, writer Kim has previously worked with Song in period K-drama Sungkyunkwan Scandal, which aired in 2010. She also wrote the Korean remake of Designated Survivor: 60 Days in 2019 and Beautiful Mind in 2016.
