There is definitely a lot in store for the Blinks this year and Rosé started it with the release of her debut single ‘On The Ground’

Sold out concert tours, piles of awards, and countless numbers of supporters—the members of Blackpink really have it all. When the girl group released its debut single album Square One in August 2016, radio stations across the globe knew that the people found a new K Pop favourite.

In 2018, Blackpink’s fame was unstoppable. Backed by millions of their fans, known as Blinks, the group’s lead single Ddu-Du Ddu-Du debuted at number 55 on the Billboard Hot 100, with an estimated 12.4 million U.S. streams.

In the same year, South Korean agency YG Entertainment revealed that it had bigger plans for the group. One of Blackpink’s members, Jennie, released Solo, in partnership with US record label Interscope.

In 2021, another Blackpink member made her debut solo. On March 12, the band’s main vocal, Rosé released On the Ground—a song that focuses on the artist’s happiness, purpose, and fame.

New Zealand-born Rosé grew up in Australia until she was 16 years old and made a life-changing decision to audition as a K-pop artist under YG Entertainment. In June 2016, she was the last member to be revealed among the four girls of Blackpink.

In one of her interviews, the young artist revealed that On The Ground is a poignant reflection of her musical journey: “The reason I feel inclined to it is because of how much it matches my life one-dimensionally. From when I was a trainee, I lived day to day, running towards my dreams”.

“Once in a while, there are moments where I’d question my motives, and I think the lyrics express this really well. I think this is something to learn from as well,” she added.

The song’s lyrics “I worked my whole life just to get high, just to realize that everything I need is on the ground,” highlights Rosé’s efforts to be in Korea’s biggest girl group. Now that she has achieved one of her biggest dreams, the artist realized that everything she truly wanted in life has always been within her reach.

In the coming days, other members of Blackpink are also set to release their own solo projects. According to reports, Lisa, the group’s lead rapper, will release her debut record sometime this year. “The solo releases by the members will continue in sequential order, after the release of Blackpink's first-ever full-length album [in October]," YG said.

Meanwhile, Blackpink’s Jisoo just landed her first lead role as an actress for a new South Korean TV drama series Snowdrop.

With their catchy tunes, record-breaking tracks, and unmatched performances, Blackpink revolutionised modern Korean music together and separately.
