Beyonce’s daughter, at nine years old, is a Grammy winner for her role in the music video for Black Is King's Brown Skin Girl but she wasn't on the original nomination list

It’s Beyonce’s big night at the Grammys 2021 with nine nominations in eight categories—the most of any artist. But it is also turns out to be a huge night for Queen Bey’s first-born Blue Ivy Carter, who at the age of just nine years old, has won her first Grammy for her role in the music video for Brown Skin Girl. This makes her the youngest Grammy Winner this year, but also the second youngest Grammy Winners in history.

The mother-daughter pair, together with singer Wizkid, won in the category for Best Music Video, where they were up against videos featuring Harry Styles, Future, Anderson.Paak, and Woodkid.

However, Blue Ivy was not originally named as a nominee when the Recording Academy announced the list of 2021 Grammy nominations last November, despite her being credited as a featured artist on the track and appearing in the music video.

Her name was added as a nominee in December 2020.

Filled with familiar faces including Lupita Nyong’o and Kelly Rowland, Brown Skin Girl is part of Beyoncé’s musical film and visual album Black Is King, a tribute to the classic The Lion King. It is available to watch on Disney+ in Singapore.
