The former royal's new job involves assisting curators at the museum for exhibitions

The former Princess Mako is living the life of every main character in a chick lit novel. Just months after she gave up her royal title in Japan to marry a commoner and move to New York, Mako has decided to kickstart her career and has reportedly found herself an unpaid internship.

Mako, who has now taken her husband’s surname, Komuro, is serving Anne Hathaway in The Devil Wears Prada vibes with her new job as an intern amid the hustle and bustle of New York City. More specifically, this new role sees her assisting curators at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The former royal is currently helping to prepare for an exhibition of paintings that were inspired by a 13th-century monk.

Mako has also been keeping quite a low profile since moving into an apartment in Hell’s Kitchen last November and generally tries to stay out of the spotlight.

Of course, who could blame the ex-princess who is reportedly suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after a four-year-long engagement that was strife with scandal and scrutiny and a quick marriage that did away with all the royal fanfare

It may come as a surprise to some that Mako decided to take up an unpaid job since she chose to forgo a reported US$1.3 million payout from the Japanese government when she bid adieu to her royal life.

However, the former princess does have a degree in art and cultural heritage from International Christian University in Japan. She also has a Master's degree in Art Museums and Gallery Studies from the University of Leicester. Regardless, it looks like Mako is slowly but surely figuring her way around the Big Apple—and we can't wait to see what's next for her.
