The new social media channel is a space to celebrate, champion and highlight pan-Asian diaspora talent and storytelling both on and off-screen

Netflix has launched Golden, a new social media channel dedicated to celebrating and championing pan-Asian diaspora talent and storytelling. The announcement comes with an introductory video that includes major stars of Asian descent. “This is where we all come together. This is where we push each other, where we learn from each other but above all, celebrate each other,” says multiple stars in the clip.

People from around the world can find and follow @NetflixGolden channels on Instagram and Twitter. It will celebrate Netflix’s pan-Asian talent both on and off-screen. There are already a few projects lined up including new episodes from the social series, Spill the Boba Tea with Wong Fu Productions.

There, co-founder Philip Wang chats with various Netflix stars of Asian descent at his Bopomofo cafe while creating unique bubble tea drinks—based on the stars’ lives. The next episode will star Emily in Paris songstress, Ashley Park.

The name, Golden was inspired by the phrase, “Real gold will always shine" and that all Asian stories are like gold—and if given the right opportunity, they will shine.

Netflix Golden manager, Lucie Zhang says, “As a first-generation Chinese American growing up in the Midwest, I rarely saw individuals who looked like me in American media, but also felt disconnected from the stars I saw in the Chinese soap dramas my mom binged. For me, being a part of the diaspora means existing in between cultures—and often feeling like you don’t belong fully in either.”

She adds, “With Golden, we want to give the Asian diaspora community a way to feel more connected to each other’s cultures and their own by celebrating Asian talent, storytelling and artistry on Netflix.”
