Canto-pop singer Anson Lo of Hong Kong boy band Mirror has joined the cast of Bizhan Tong’s upcoming zombie thriller, Chungking Mansion

Fresh off his new solo release last month, Anson Lo, the lead dancer and singer of Canto-pop sensation Mirror, is adding a project to his already impressive resume of achievements. The Hong Kong rising star has been unveiled as a new cast member of British director Bizhan Tong’s upcoming zombie film, Chung King Mansion. According to reports, the movie will be released by Tong’s company Phoenix Waters Production, in collaboration with AMM Global and Salon Films Japan.

While Lo’s role is still unknown, it’s been confirmed that he will be joining a star-studded Asian cast featuring Hong Kong-Canadian actresses Selena Lee and Jeannie Chan, Korean star and Single Inferno’s contestant Choi Si-hun, and Hong Kong actor Louis Cheung. Lo will also star alongside Korean actress, Goo Joon-hee, Japanese action star Rina Takeda and Singaporean actors Desmond Tan and Rebecca Lim in the movie—all of them had originally been confirmed as part of the cast back in September. Thai actress Davika Hoorn, who’s known for her role in Pee Mak, the country’s highest-grossing film of all time, will also be joining the cast.

Touted as Hong Kong’s biggest zombie film ever, Chung King Mansion is helmed by Bizhan Tong, who’s best known for directing Lockdown, the pandemic-themed thriller. Tong previously won the Best Director award at the Festival of Cinema NYC and had worked on a series of film and television projects in the industry over the years, including Forensic Psychologist, a crime series set against the backdrop of Hong Kong.

Tong's new movie will primarily film in English and tell the story of a disparate group of people from across the globe who must climb the iconic Chungking Mansions building to survive amidst a zombie outbreak in the city. Centred around an American seeking to rescue his pregnant wife, the movie also features a variety of languages including Cantonese, Japanese, and Korean to reflect the multi-cultural nature of both the production and Chungking Mansions itself.

With a diverse array of Asian talents joining the cast, it will be interesting to see what Lo will bring to this zombie apocalypse film. The singer made his acting debut in the 2020 sports TV drama We are the Littles, and later received recognition for his leading role in Ossan’s Love—ViuTV’s remake of the popular Japanese gay drama of the same title.
