The virtual ‘Met Stars Live in Concert’ events will be streamed from opera houses all over the world

Craving a little dose of culture and escapism? The world-renowned Metropolitan Opera is making it easier and more accessible than ever to experience the opera. The New York City opera house announced that it will be launching ‘Met Stars Live in Concert,’ a series of pay-per-view live concerts for just US$20 per ticket.

“This new initiative is intended to create live performance opportunities for our artists and our audiences at a time when they both sorely need it,” the Met’s general manager, Peter Gelb, said in a Travel + Leisure report. “Although some concert activity is beginning to take place once again in some parts of the world, this is a chance for opera fans to experience their favorite stars in real-time, since it’s going to be a long time before artists and their audiences are fully mobile again.”

The new cultural experience starts this weekend at 1 a.m. HKT on July 19 when Jonas Kaufmann will perform live from the Polling Abbey in Bavaria, featuring well-loved selections including Nessun dorma from Turandot, E lucevan le stelle from Tosca, and Ah! lève-toi, soleil from Roméo et Juliette, to name a few.

A dozen other live shows will also be added through the summer months and into the holidays, with charming locations including a Norwegian castle, a church in Wales, and even on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

While showtimes will vary based on the location of each opera house, each concert can be streamed on-demand for up to twelve days after the real time event for anyone who was unable to attend the live show.
