Irene

Known by her birth name Bae Joo-Hyun, Irene is one of the five ladies in Red Velvet. She first auditioned while she was in high school and trained for five years under SM Entertainment between the years 2009-2014. She had previously recalled receiving the phone call that changed her life—saying that SM Entertainment had wanted to sign her—as she made her way to eat ddeokbokki after class. Aside from being a prolific singer and dancer, Irene has already made her acting debut on the web drama The Female Employees of a Game Company. She is also the leading lady in the movie Double Patty.

Seulgi

Seulgi was incredibly young when she began training under SM Entertainment. It began in her first year of middle school—2007—and ended in her debut seven years later in 2014. Between that time, Seulgi has been open about the pressures she felt, saying that after a few years of training, she had hit a slump and began questioning whether this was the right path for her. Her training had also been kept a secret for many years, making it harder for her to open up.

Thankfully she is now enjoying plenty of success. She's been in multiple TV shows and films, and has also endorsed global brands such as Converse and Salvatore Ferragamo.

Wendy

A powerful vocalist, Wendy is also a talented multi-lingual. Though she was born in South Korea, Wendy and her family have also lived in North America, giving her access to language tools that allow her to speak English, French, and Spanish.

After graduating high school, Wendy moved back to South Korea where she began training under SM Entertainment. Since then, she's collaborated with multiple artists and projects such as Eric Nam's Spring Love and rapper Yuk Ji-Dam for the song Return

Joy

Her gorgeous long locks are the envy of K-Pop stans around the world. Joy, also known as Park Soo-Young first discovered her love for performing while still in school. After performing for an event with her classmates, she was urged by her friends to audition for SM Entertainment. She was promptly chosen and trained for two years before debuting with Red Velvet. At the moment, she has an incredible portfolio that includes acting in dramas and variety shows. She is also currently dating R&B singer, Crush.

Yeri

Yeri spent four years with SM Entertainment as a trainee. She joined the group a little later than rest, debuting with them in 2015 as an additional member (though she did appear in Red Velvet's Happiness even before her debut). Yeri is also quite popular and is close friends with Blackpink's Rosé and actress Kim Sae-Ron.
