Falling on March 8 every year, International Women’s Day (IWD) is a day to honour the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The occasion also marks a call to action for promoting gender parity and women’s empowerment.
This year’s theme #EachforEqual is about building a gender-balanced world. With IWD fast approaching, we’ve rounded up five of the most exciting Hong Kong events for you to celebrate the occasion with your girlfriends
JIA Presents International Women's Day
Founded by Tatler 500 Lister Yenn Wong, local-based JIA Group is a reputed hospitality firm which runs a number of widely acclaimed bars and restaurants serving up a diverse array of international cuisines.
This year, JIA Group will host a special IWD event to honour Hong Kong’s distinguished women from different industries, such as business, arts and culture. Enjoy speciality cocktails crafted by Hong Kong's top female bartenders while you participate in inspiring panel discussions and networking sessions at the event. All drink sales will be donated to Teen’s Key, a non-profit organisation that helps abused women, sex workers and teenage girls through education and support initiatives.
International Women’s Day Dinner: Cooking for a Good Cause
What better way to celebrate IWD than to enjoy a scrumptious feast for a good cause? Vicky Lau of Tate Dining Room is going to invite seven talented female figures from different industries for a charity dinner collaboration, with all proceeds going to the Beyond Foundation.
The line-up of chefs features top names including Charmaine Mok, T.Dining Editorial Director; Gigi Ng, fourth-generation owner of Chinese restaurant Ser Wong Fun; Yenn Wong, founder of Jia Group and more. Each person will be crafting a dish to complete the eight-course tasting menu.
International Women's Day at Fivelements Habitat
Urban retreat Fivelements Habitat is celebrating this year’s IWD with an event dedicated to powerful women in wellness. The event will gather a group of Hong Kong’s leading female founders, vegan entrepreneurs, as well as sustainability experts, to explore themes such as wellness practices, conscious business and female empowerment.
Part of the proceeds will be donated to HER Fund, a local organisation that strives to promote gender equality and women’s rights. A single-day pass will allow you to access multiple sessions with speakers such as Adeline Chan, founder of VeggieWorld; Payal Shah, founder of L'Dezen; and Jasmine Nunns from Kembali, to name just a few.
The event will be held on March 8 at Fivelements Habitat. Find out more at eventbrite.hk
International Women's Day Workout
Calling all outdoor enthusiasts—if your idea of IWD has something to do with an exercise for a good sweat and enjoying the pleasant weather with your besties, this event is not to be missed.
Organised by reputed fitness coach and personal trainer Kristen Handford, the workout session will take place on IWD at Central Park Lawn—a beautiful, open area located in Discovery Bay. Be sure to bring your own yoga mat, towel and water bottle.
The event will be held on March 8 Central Park Lawn, in front of Discovery College. Find out more at eventbrite.hk
