1. Pink Together 2020

What: If things have started looking extra rosy to you recently, you may already know it’s that time of the year again: the Breast Cancer Awareness month, which calls for people’s attention to show support and care to those affected by the disease. This year, the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation is taking its annual Pink Walk online with a series of fundraising events for people to exercise for a worthwhile cause.

2. HK Phil: Lou Kuokman

When: October 9-10

Where: Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall

What: Music lover, this one is for you. The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra opens its 20/21 season with renowned conductor Lio Kuokman’s Beethoven Triple Concerto performance to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth and the joy of collective music-making. Lio will kick off the programme with Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, a piece that dedicated to all healthcare professionals who have tirelessly combatted Covid-19 in Hong Kong.

3. Heart of Cyberpunk

When: October 17

Where: Tung Chau Street Temporary Market

What: This month, Design District Hong Kong (#ddHK) is partnering with Sham Shui Po’s creative community to transform the area into a futuristic metropolis—“Heart of Cyberpunk”. Echoing the aesthetics in cyberpunk films (think Blade Runner [1982] and Ghost In The Shell [2017]), the project will feature unique installations designed by 10 local businesses, fashion performances, a market, free guided tours and workshops to immerse guests into the surreal world of cyberpunk.

4. HK Ballet: Don Quixote

When: October 30-31; November 1

Where: Hong Kong Cultural Centre Grand Theatre

What: Hong Kong Ballet’s upcoming adaptation of Nina Ananiashvili’s exuberant Don Quixote will bring the audience a beautiful dance spectacle accompanied by a fanciful storyline, virtuoso choreography, stunning costumes and sets.

5. The Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra: Majestic Drums

When: October 31

Where: Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall

What: The highly-anticipated Hong Kong Drum Festival is back! The annual gala event will feature drumming performances of winners of Hong Kong Synergy 24 Drum Competition, Refiner Drums—the drum team from Gekko Taiko Centre, as well as renowned percussionists Chau Chin-tung and Huang Hsuan-ning.
