‘Chaebol Family’s Youngest Son’: 4 Things To Know About Song Joong Ki’s New K-Drama
Fresh off the global success of Netflix’s Vincenzo, top Hallyu star Song Joong Ki is ready to take on another dark role. Titled, Chaebol Family’s Youngest Son, the K-drama is scheduled to start production in the second half of 2021.
Here’s what we know about Chaebol Family’s Youngest Son so far:
The plot revolves around the story of a protagonist who was accused of embezzlement of funds by the Sunyang Group chaebol (a large family-owned business conglomerate) family, who he had been loyal to for more than a decade.
After being killed by the family, the narrative then follows the boy’s reincarnation as their youngest son and his ultimate plan to take over the entire chaebol family to avenge his misery.
Song is set to play Sunyang Group's family secretary Yoon Hyun Woo, who dies after being framed for embezzlement and later miraculously reborn as the family’s youngest son, Jin Do Joon. Multiple award-winning actor Lee Sung Min, best known for his role in the 2018 espionage film The Spy Gone North, has been confirmed for the role of the relentlessly competitive and ruthless Jin Yang Chul, the head of Sunyang Group. He was also recently in the Netflix Korean horror movie, The 8th Night.
Other potential cast members include Girls’ Generation’s Tiffany Young, who has reportedly been offered the role of Rachel Arief, the Korean-American CEO of Miracle Investments. The K-pop star, who has been actively promoting her solo activities, recently starred as the leading role of Roxie Hart in the South Korean musical production of the Broadway hit, Chicago. If Tiffany accepts the role, she'll be making her small screen debut with this drama.
Hospital Playlist actress Shin Hyun Bin, on the other hand, is in talks to play prosecutor Seo Min Young who works at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office. Her character is Do Joon’s rival in law school and his love interest as well.
Chaebol Family’s Youngest Son will be helmed by director Jung Dae Yoon and written by screenwriter Kim Tae Hee. Jung boasts an impressive resume of previous works including 2015’s She Was Pretty and 2016’s popular fantasy-romance W: Two Worlds Apart.
Meanwhile, writer Kim has previously worked with Song in period K-drama Sungkyunkwan Scandal, which aired in 2010. She also wrote the Korean remake of Designated Survivor: 60 Days in 2019 and Beautiful Mind in 2016.
