2018 has been a year for thrillers both in film and cinema. If you're spending the long weekend on vacation or at home, we bring you a list of shows/ movies you should check-out to get into the Halloween spirit.

1. Halloween (2018)

The 11th film in the longstanding franchise, this sequel is a must-watch for those who are avid fans of the series. Beginning in 1978, the series follows serial killer, Michael Myers, as he struggles with his inner demons and impulse to kill. In the 2018 movie, Myers escapes institutionalisation and pursues Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis) -- to finish what he started. If you're looking for a murder thiller, this might be right up your alley. 

2. The Haunting of Hill House (2018)

Receiving critical acclaim and social media fame, this Netflix original series is fast becoming a crowd favourite. Loosely based on the 1959 novel of the same name, The Haunting of Hill House follows a family who slowly begins to experience increasing paranormal activities. The series follows the highs and lows of trauma, fear, and acceptance. Some people say it can be quite challenging to watch alone -- will you be up to the challenge?

3. Suspiria (2018)

A remake of the eponymous 1977 cult classic, Suspiria is out in theatres today. Following newcomer Susie Bannon, the movie revolves around the mysterious chain of events that unfold in a renowned dance company in Germany. Not long after she is accepted in the prestigious institution, Bannon finds out there is much more than meets the eye. 

4. Hereditary (2018)

Hereditary turns up the psychological horror with supernatural elements that will have you stifling a shriek while your eyes stay glued to the screens. Describing the plot in any way might take away from the sheer pleasure and terror of the viewing experience.

5. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (2018)

A darker twist on its antecedent, Sabrina: The Teenage Witch, this series expands the famous character's lore and myth. Sabrina, on her 16th birthday is asked to sign the book of the beast to pledge alliegance to the devil. She now has to choose between being part of a coven, or go it alone. If you're looking for something with the same vibe as Riverdale, in that it explores sacrifice, family, and coming-of-age against a mystery backdrop, this series is definitely for you!

6. Maniac (2018)

A psychological comedy-drama, Maniac revolves around two characters that come together to undergo a mysterious pharmaceutical experiment where they explore the inner workings of their minds. Starring Jonah Hill and Emma Stone, this Netflix series will surely take you on a cinematic spin. 

 

7. A Quiet Place (2018)

You might have seen this incredibly cinematic thriller earlier this year, but why not re-watch it this long weekend? With an interesting plot and incredible acting chops form both John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, A Quiet Place plays on suspense and beautiful cinematography to reflect on the importance of family and the will to survive.
