Michael Müller: An Exhibition as a Copy 

Known for its roster of contemporary artists from China and Taiwan, this year Galerie du Monde is branching out and hosting a solo show of new works by German artist Michael Müller. Comprised of paintings and sculptures, this show explores Müller’s interests in archaeology, anthropology and ancient traditions.

Beijing Abstract

Parkview Art specialises in abstract art and with this exhibition presents the works of eight prominent Chinese abstract artists: Mao Lizi, Ma Kelu, Ma Shuqing, Yuan Zuo, Tan Ping, Meng Luding, Feng Lianghong and Li Di. The brain behind the show is revered academic and curator Peng Feng, who has previously curated the Chinese pavilion at the Venice Biennale.

Laurent Martin “Lo”: Zhu Qi

The only gallery in Asia whose focus is on showcasing work by Spanish and Latin American artists, Puerta Roja is hosting a show of new work by Laurent Martin “Lo”, who lives and works in Spain and whose gravity-defying bamboo sculptures are influenced by his extensive travels. This exhibition features aerial sculptures inspired by Hong Kong and the city’s iconic junk boats.

Ai Xuan

Ai Xuan is known as “Master Ai” in China, but internationally he’s overshadowed by his half-brother, Ai Weiwei. While his brother has tapped into the zeitgeist with his conceptual and politically-charged art, Ai Xuan has always turned to history for inspiration and is famous for his realist paintings of Tibetan nomads.

Jes Fan and Xavier Cha

Artists who blur the boundaries between different art forms are in the spotlight at Empty Gallery, which is presenting two solo shows side-by- side in its Aberdeen space. Jes Fan was born in Hong Kong and Xavier Cha hails from Los Angeles, but they’re connected by the ways in which they use their mixed media art to explore the human body, cosmetics and plastic surgery.

Wang Tiande and When Less Is More

Celebrated calligrapher Wang Tiande will unveil new works at Alisan Fine Arts in Central. Like Wang’s previous works, many of these are painted using incense sticks in lieu of a paintbrush, with some also featuring burn marks from lit incense. In its Aberdeen gallery, Alisan Fine Arts will host a group show featuring the works of Fung Ming-chip, Kan Tai- keung, Shao Yan, Fabienne Verider and Zhang Yu.
